Poppy Appeal is launched at Middleton Grange
This year’s Middleton Grange Poppy Appeal is being hosted by a very special lady – Sian Cameron, who has been chosen to represent the region at this year’s Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.
Taking place on Saturday 10 November, Sian, who heads up Hartlepool’s team of collectors for the Royal British Legion (RBL), has also been asked to attend a special service at Westminster Abbey to mark 100 years of the armistice for WW1.
Sian will be running a stand along with her fellow fundraisers at the Hartlepool shopping centre, from Saturday 27 October until Saturday 10 November, offering shoppers the chance to buy a variety of poppy memorabilia, as well as supporting Hartlepool’s RBL.
Sian took up the role from her father eight years ago when he sadly passed away. Since then she has worked tirelessly to raise money and awareness with the help from her amazing team of fundraisers. She said: “I’m thrilled and honoured to have been selected by the RBL to have this incredible opportunity to be part of this momentous occasion.
“When I took over from my dad it became my mission to raise as much money as possible for the organisation and it’s thanks to the very generous donations from members of the public that has allowed our continued success.”
Sian and her team will be located in Central Square at Middleton Grange from 27 October until 10 November (excluding Sundays) from 10am until 4pm. All proceeds raised will be go to Hartlepool RBL.
Mark Rycraft, Middleton Grange Shopping Centre manager, added: “We’re thrilled that Sian and her team are back for another year, raising money for such a worthwhile cause. Their stall is always very busy, and is always a great way in which to bring the local community together in support and memory of our fallen soldiers. Sian in particular is an inspiration and she thoroughly deserves her trip to London to attend these two very poignant ceremonies.”
The centre will also be hosting a free poppy making themed creation station on Saturday 11 November from 11am until 3pm where little ones can get creative and make poppies using various arts and crafts.
