Middleton Grange celebrates industry award win
Middleton Grange Shopping Centre has swept to victory, winning one of the shopping centre industry’s top awards at the coveted Sceptre Awards 2017 this week.
The centre team took home the Energy Management Award which recognises best practice in energy efficiency. It effectively demonstrated to the judges that since 2014 it has improved its overall energy consumption, reduced its carbon emissions as well as implementing a communication strategy for its retailers and staff to garner their participation in the initiative.
Mark Rycraft, Middleton Grange Centre Manager, is absolutely thrilled with the win. He said: “We have worked tirelessly to make sure we have efficiently reduced our energy consumption as a shopping centre and we are very proud of our achievments. Through a number of initiatives including installing light control timers and energy efficient light fittings throughout the centre and service areas, and installing new machine room-less lifts we have successfully cut our electricity consumption by 60,000 kwh.”
Mark said the installation of photovoltaic panels at the centre had also made an incredible difference to the centre’s electricity consumption. “We now generate 261,189 kWh of renewable electricity per year, which is the equivalent of providing electricity to 60 homes a year,” he said. “We’ll also save 2,300 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide over the course of its 20 years of operation.”
Held at the prestigious Dorchester Hotel in London, the Sceptre Awards recognise best practices and stand-out people in the shopping centre industry. They also identify management teams, retailers and suppliers that demonstrate real excellence in the work they do.
“This has been an ongoing programme of generating awareness, implementation of relevant training, thorough and rigorous planning and information sharing,” said Mark. Without the full support from our team and retailers we would never have accomplished our target.”
“A Sceptre Award is such a highly respected and recognised accolade in the shopping centre industry and to come out on top is a huge triumph for us,” concluded Mark.
