Hartlepool Male Voice Choir wow crowds at Middleton Grange

Visitors to Middleton Grange Shopping Centre were treated to the sensational sounds of Hartlepool Male Voice Choir when they performed at the centre over the weekend.

Shoppers gathered to hear 50 of the choir’s members give two rousing 30-minute performances, which included a spine-tingling rendition of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘This Nearly Was Mine’ from the musical film South Pacific.

The choir was in the centre to promote its upcoming Summer Celebrity Concert with Aled Jones on 17 June at Hartlepool Borough Hall. David Gibson, musical director of Hartlepool Male Voice Choir said: “It’s an honour for us to be performing with Aled next month. It’s set to be an unmissable event so we wanted to give the people of Hartlepool a taster of what’s to come.

“The crowd at Middleton Grange were fantastic and we loved seeing so many different generations coming together to enjoy the songs. We hope our performance on Saturday prompts people to snap up tickets for the concert, which are now available from the Destination Hartlepool website.”

Mark Rycraft, Centre Manager for Middleton Grange explained that the presence of the choir created a unique atmosphere in the centre. He said: “Having one of the North East’s finest singing ensembles fill the centre with their incredible harmonies literally made people stop in their tracks. It was great to see the smiling faces of our customers enjoying the songs and singing along – myself included.”

“The performances were superb and really set the tone for the rest of the day. The choir’s summer concert is going to be a great night of entertainment, it’s going to be wonderful welcoming Aled to Hartlepool and we encourage people to get tickets before they sell out.”

The choir was also in the centre to raise funds for its chosen charity, Alice House Hospice. “We’d also like to thank everyone for their kind donations in support of the charity. It is the only adult hospice in Hartlepool and East Durham so these funds really are essential for it to continue its great work supporting local families.” said David.
